The media learned that 164 people, including a number of women, submitted applications for the NPB Umpire School in December.  The NPB was pleasantly surprised by the number of applications -- there is only enough room for fifty to sixty students -- and have plans to hold additional sessions in the future.

The NPB announced on Wednesday that a team of Eastern League players will play two practice games against the National Team competing at the East Asian Games in October.

  • Game 1 - August 3 (Sat) - Giants Stadium @ 13:00
  • Game 2 - August 4 (Sun) - Giants Stadium @ 13:00

Admission will be free.

Naotaka Okuno stepped down from his post as the NPB's chief of business promotion on July 31.  Okuno brought his expertise in marketing to the NPB in 2011.  He was a member of the Samuari Japan Project and played a large role during discussions between the JPBPA and the MLB for the 2013 WBC.
