Hanshin: The Tigers dropped their second straight game.  This was their nineteenth shutout loss (eighth 1-0 loss) and fourth walk-off loss of the year. ... Messenger came into the game 3-1 with a 4.50 ERA in five starts against the Bay Stars this season.  He was hoping to pick up his first victory in two starts since his last win on August 25 (vs Chunichi).  This was the sixth double-digit strikeout game of his NPB career (fourth of the season). ... R. Arai recorded his fourth modasho of the year. ... Murton extended his hitting streak to thirteen games; Toritani to five games.

Yokohama: The Bay Stars have won two games in row.  This was their eighth shutout victory (first 1-0 win) and seventh walk-off win of the season. ...
