Nippon Ham Fighters

The Fighters have hit six grand slams this season.  That ties the franchise record set in 1990 and 2005.

The NPB record of twelve was set by Chunichi in 1950.  The PL record of eleven was set by Orix in 1990.

Softbank Hawks

Nobuhiko Matsunaka blasted a grand slam in a Ni-gun game against the Hanshin Tigers on Thursday.  He was the starting DH and batted fourth.  With the bases loaded and one out in the 5th, he deposited a 1-1 fastball from Kazuhito Futagami over the center field wall.  He went 2-for-3 with a walk, five RBI, and a stolen base in the game.

Wily Mo Pena started in left and batted third.  He went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a home run.

Owner Hiroshi Mikitani would like to know what Senichi Hoshino's plans are for next year before the end of the season.  Mikitani has  offered Hoshino an extension for 2014 and is not looking to take the focus away from the current season by asking for a response right away, but also does not want to be in a position where he has to rush to find a new replacement (if it comes to that).  He plans to meet with the manager at some point before the end of the season.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Pitching coach Akio Saito is still not feeling well and will most likely miss the Seibu three-game series that begins today.  The Marines are hoping Saito will be able to return for the next series.
