Central League

Nihon Seimei MVP Awards

Wladimir Balentien, Yakult Swallows (Fourth Time, second time this season)

Shuichi Murata, Yomiuri Giants (Fourth Time, second in a row)
27 G, 46-for-109, 10 HR, 27 RBI, .422 BA

First time two players were selected since Dicky Gonzalez and Kan Otake in May 2009.  Balentien set a new NPB record with eighteen home runs in one month and led the league in RBI and batting average (triple crown for the month).  Murata batted over .400 for the second consecutive month (fifth player in league history) and set a new CL record with forty-six hits in one month.  He is the first Giant to win the award in consecutive months since Shinnosuke Abe in August and September 2012.

Shintaro Fujinami, Hanshin Tigers (First Time)
5 G, 4-0, 0 CG, 33.0 IP, 27 K, 4 ER, 1.09 ERA

Tied for month victories in a month with Yusuke Nomura while maintain an ERA under two.  Became the first rookie out of high school in the CL to ten games since Yutaka Enatsu in 1967.  First rookie out of high school to win a CL MVP of the Month since Shinichi Kondo in August 1987.  A Tiger pitcher has won the MVP of the Month award the last four months, a first in CL history.

Pacific League

Nihon Seimei MVP Awards

Seiichi Uchikawa, Softbank Hawks (Second Time*)
25 G, 35-for-100, 5 HR, 21 RBI, .350 BA

Batted third for most of the month.  Played in all twenty-five games and led the league in slugging (.610), total bases (61) and doubles (11).  Was third in batting average (.350) and hits (35).

* does not include the award he won with Yokohama (August 2008).

Masahiro Tanaka, Rakuten Eagles (Eleventh Time, fourth in a row)
5 G, 5-0, 1 CG, 38.0 IP, 44 K, 4 ER, 0.95 ERA

Led the league in victories (5), ERA (0.95), innings pitched (38.0), and strikeouts (44).  Set a new career high with five victories in one month.  Extended his winning streak from the start of the season to nineteen.  First player in NPB history to win the MVP of the Month award eleven times in his career.  Also the first player in the NPB to win the award four times in row and four times in one season.
