[9/22/2013] Injury Updates: Fukudome (HAN), Nakata (HAM), Hosokawa (SOF), Ray, Rasner (RAK), Ito (LOT)

Hanshin Tigers

Kosuke Fukudome (left calf) worked out with the Ichi-gun team at Koshien on Tuesday.  He took batting and fielding practice.  He also wore cleats during running exercises (running the bases and dashes) for the first time since he got hurt.  He was added to the active roster today.  He was intentionally walked during a pinch-hit at bat in the 7th.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Sho Nakata (left pinky) was examined at a Sapporo hospital today.  The team trainer told reporters his bone was healing properly.  He could begin swinging the bat with both hands soon.

After his hospital visit, he visited Sapporo Dome and did some exercises during pre-game workouts.

Softbank Hawks

Toru Hosokawa took an HBP off the left side of his head in the 2nd inning of today's game against the Seibu Lions.  He was taken off the field in a stretcher, but was able to speak and walk when he got on the ambulance.  A CT scan did not reveal any apparent damage to the brain.  He was diagnosed with a bruise.

Rakuten Eagles

Ken Ray was examined at a hospital in Chiba today and was informed he did not need surgery after he took a batted ball off his face during Wednesday's game against Lotte and suffered a fracture in his right cheekbone.  Ray will now return to Sendai for tests on his eyes/vision.  The team will continue to monitor him over the next few days before deciding on his status.

Darrell Rasner will undergo Tommy John surgery later this week and will most likely require about a year for a full recovery.

Senichi Hoshino on Rasner leaving for the US and perhaps never returning to the Eagles: "I almost teared up.  He is a nice guy.  He apologized for having to leave in the middle of such an exciting season."

Chiba Lotte Marines

Yoshihiro Ito had surgery on his right elbow at a hospital in Funabashi, Chiba on Tuesday.  There were no complications during the procedure.  Ito began his rehab today and will likely require three months before he can throw again.
