Nippon Ham Fighters

Shohei Otani is the first rookie out of high school since the two-league format in NPB history to record a victory as a pitcher and hit three home runs.  There have been two rookies in the past that recorded a victory as a pitcher and hit two home runs: Tetsuya Yoneda (nine wins) in 1956 and Tsuneo Horiuchi (sixteen wins) in 1966.

Otani also joined Hachiro Yamamoto (four home runs in 1956) and Isao Harimoto (thirteen in 1959) as the only players out of high school in franchise history to hit three or more home runs during their rookie seasons.

Yoshinao Kamata was added to the active roster on Wednesday.  Because of the timing -- he is coming back from right elbow pain and pitched in his first rehab game on August 11 -- he will most likely be used out of the bullpen.
