Yomiuri Giants

Hisayoshi Chono threw out a batter/runner at first base on Thursday for the second time this season (Seth Greisinger on May 15 vs Lotte, Tony Blanco on September 12 vs Yokohama).  He is the first person to accomplish that since Aaron Guiel in 2009 (Shun Tono on April 23 vs Yomiuri, Kenichi Nakata on July 7 vs Chunichi).

Hanshin Tigers

Yuya Ando was taken off the active roster to give him some time to rest and recover -- he has pitched in fifty-one games so far this year and the team wants to make sure he is not to overworked, assuming they make the Climax Series.

Takashi Toritani reached base in his forty-fourth straight game on Thursday.  That is the fifth longest streak in CL history.  The top four longest streaks: forty-five games by Yasunori Oshima in 1977; forty-seven games by Shinnosuke Abe in 2012; fifty games by Sadaharu Oh in 1965; and sixty-five games by Hideki Matsui in 2001.

GM Katsuhiro Nakamura returned from his scouting trip in Korea on Thursday.  He will soon meet with other front office officials to discuss players he checked on, most notably Samsung's Seung-Hwan Oh.

According to Sanspo, the Tigers have set a November 15 deadline on negotiations with Matt Murton.  If an agreement cannot be reached, there is a chance he could attempt a return to the Majors next year.

First, it isn’t uncommon for men to miss their child’s birth in Japan. Sad, but true. I think things are slowly beginning to change now, but Japan used to have a seriously tough work ethic where the job always came first and family came second.

Second, he was present at the birth. Also, his start was on Tuesday the 10th. His child was born on the 12th.
