Yomuri Giants

Kentaro Nishimura joined Marc Kroon (forty-one in 2008) as the only two pitchers in franchise history to record forty or more saves in a season.

Ninety-three players showed up for tryouts out Giants Stadium on Sunday -- thirty-seven pitches, three catchers, twenty-nine infielders, and twenty-four outfielders.  While fifty-four made it through the first cut, only four (three pitchers and one infielder) made it through the entire tryout.  Whether the four players passed will be determined on draft day.

Yakult Swallows

Yasuhiro Ogawa is the first rookie to win fifteen games in the NPB since Koji Uehara won twenty and Daisuke Matsuzaka won sixteen in 1999.

Hiroshima Carp

Kenta Maeda was scheduled to make his next start on the 26th against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome (four days of rest), but the schedule could change after he pitched through a fever (caused by tonsillitis) on Saturday.

Maeda became the first Hiroshima pitcher since Yutaka Ono in 1984 to win nine consecutive starts in one season.  Manabu Kitabeppu holds the team record with eleven straight wins in 1982.

Hanshin Tigers

Matt Murton set a new franchise record on Sunday with his fourth straight modasho (three or more hits in one game).

The NPB record of five was set by Michio NIshizawa in 1954 and tied by Tadahito Iguchi in 2003.

The media learned that Brooks Conrad will be heading back to the US within the next couple of days.  He visited Naruohama on Saturday to say good-bye to Ni-gun coaches, staff, and teammates.  He did not participate in practices.  He is not expected to return to Hanshin next season.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Tony Blanco has struggled since returning to the starting line-up after missing a few games with discomfort in is right hamstring -- 0-for-8 with three strikeouts.  He will not be in the starting line-up on Monday.
