[9/24/2013] Hiroshima can clinch last CL Climax Series spot on Wednesday

by on Sep.24, 2013 @ 11:55 pm, under NPB

Hiroshima moved one victory closer to clinching the last Climax Series spot in the Central League by beating Chunichi tonight, 5-3.  They can wrap things up by beating the Dragons again tomorrow.

The Yokohama Bay Stars were eliminated from the playoffs today with their 6-1 loss to the Hanshin Tigers.

First place in the PL is now down to two teams, the Rakuten Eagles and the Chiba Lotte Marines.  The Softbank Hawks were eliminated from the group after their 5-3 loss to the Orix Buffaloes tonight.

The Eagles could have inched closer to clinching their franchise's first pennant with a win tonight, but instead dropped their game against the Seibu Lions 4-3.  The Chiba Lotte Marines kept the pressure on by beating the Nippon Ham Fighters 4-3.  The Eagles' magic number remained at three and the earliest they can clinch first in the PL is Thursday -- Rakuten wins two and Lotte loses at least one of the next two games or Rakuten wins one, ties one and Lottes either loses and ties one or loses two.
