Kiyoshi Nakahata told fans at the end of last season that he would lose his job if he did not make the Climax Series this year. The Bay Stars were officially eliminated from the playoffs tonight with their 6-1 loss to the Hanshin Tigers.
In speaking to reporters after the game, Nakahata said, "My thoughts have not changed since [the things I said] at the end of last season."
When asked if he would manage the team next season if given the opportunity, he replied, "Just the opposite. I feel I have to take responsibility here. We will continue to play hard until the very end. I am not thinking about what happens after that."
Team officials have already said that were not going to make a decision on Nakahata based solely on whether or not the team made it to the Climax Series.
