Yomiuri Giants

The Giants announced on Thursday that they were parting ways with Ni-gun batting coach Katsuya Kishikawa (48) and Ni-gun battery coach Katsunori Nomura (40).

Chunichi Dragons

The Dragons informed Akihiro Maeda and Akinobu Shimizu on Wednesday that they will not sign them to contracts for the 2014 season.  They are both planning to retire at the end of the season.  The team has offered them positions within in the organization.

Yakult Swallows

Shinya Miyamoto's retirement ceremony will take place after Friday's game.  He is scheduled to play a full game at short batting second.

Wladimir Balentien visited the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Tokyo on Thursday to see his home run record exhibit.  The museum honored Balentien during the visit and thanked him for supplying memorabilia from his historic blast.

Kenichi Matsuoka is the first pitcher to record a 1-0 shutout against the Yomiuri Giants since Stephen Randolph for Yokohama on October 2, 2009; first Japanese pitcher since Masato Kato for Yokohama on September 23, 1994; first Yakult pitcher since Kenjiro Kawasaki on September 24, 1990.
