When they say Tanishige could be a player/manager, do they mean play AND manage at the same time? Has that been done before?

Yes, that would be play and manage.

There have been a number of cases in the past where players also managed. The most recent was was Atsuya Furuta with Yakult in 2006 and 2007. He played in thirty-six games in 2006 and ten games in 2007.

Ah, okay. FYI, according to Chunichi Sports, it’s now official. Tanishige will play and manage, Mori will be head coach, and Ochiai will be GM!
