[10/12/2013] Samurai Japan News and Notes

Sho Nakata (Nippon Ham), Shintaro Fujinami (Hanshin), Shohei Otani (Nippon Ham), and Yasuhiro Ogawa (Yakult) are said to be on the NPB's list of candidates for Hiroki Kokubo's first Samurai Japan roster.

Kokubo is looking at Nakata as his potential clean-up hitter.

Hideki Kuriyama told reporters he does not think Otani will be selected, based on his numbers from this past season.

According to Sports Hochi, the coaching staff could end up looking something like this:

Manager - Hiroki Kokubo (42)
Head coach - Hiroshi Narahara (45)
Pitching coach - Yoshitaka Katori (56)
Battery coach - Akihiro Yano (44)
Batting coach - Atsunori Inaba (41)
Batting coach - Hirotami Kojima (49)
INF/base-running coach - Toshihisa Nishi (42)
OF/base-running coach - Arihito Muramatsu (40)

They make no mention of Kazuyoshi Tatsunami (44).

Sponichi adds that positions for Katori, Yano, and Nishi are most or less set and that there is a good chance Inaba will become the batting coach.  They also mention that Tatsunami was dropped from the list of candidates because they want to give others a chance.

Inaba told reporters on Friday he has no reason to turn down a coaching job with Samurai Japan.

Kokubo spoke to reporters today and said they were in the final stages of setting the coaching staff.  An announcement could be made some time next week.
