Yomiuri Giants

Takeru Imamura could be tapped to start Game 5 of the Final Stage after a solid Phoenix League outing on Sunday -- he did not put any runners on base over two innings of work and struck out four.  Tatsunori Hara did tell reporters he was thinking about having the lefty in the bullpen for Game 1 of the Final Stage.

Yoshitomo Tani is one step closer to making the Climax Series roster as a right-handed bat off the bench -- he went 2-for-2 during a Phoenix League game against Softbank on Sunday.

Hanshin Tigers

On Sunday, Tsuyoshi Nishioka became the first Hanshin player to hit a lead-off home run in a post-season game since Yoshio Yoshida in Game 6 of the 1962 Nippon Series.  It was Nishioka's first lead-off home run since May 18 (vs Softbank).

Shinjiro Hiyama hit a two-run homer in a pinch-hit appearance on Sunday.  It was the eleventh pinch-hit home run in Playoff/Climax Series history (first since Hiroshima's Takahiro Iwamoto on Saturday) and first by a Hanshin player.

Nine players over forty have hit home runs during the postseason.  At forty-four years and three months, Hiyama is the oldest.  The previous record of forty-one years and six months was set by Katsumi Hirosawa in 2003.

Including the regular season, only five other players have hit home runs at an older age: Tomoaki Kanemoto (forty-four years and five months), Hiromitsu Ochiai, Hiromitsu Kadota, Katsuya Nomura (forty-five years and one month), and Yoshiyuki Iwamoto (forty-five years and five months)

Hiroshima Carp

According to Sports Hochi, Hiroshima fielded a 330 million yen starting line-up versus Hanshin's 1.1 billion yen starting line-up on Sunday (does not include starting pitchers).

The Carp tied a Playoff/Climax Series high with five sac hits on Sunday.  Softbank recorded five sac hits during Game 5 of the Second Stage of the Playoffs in 2005 and Game 2 of the First Stage of the 2007 Climax Series.  Five sac hits is a new record for the CL.
