Shohei Otani threw eighty-two pitches in the bullpen on Tuesday in preparation for a Phoenix League start against the Island League on the 19th.

Otani took thirty-four swings during batting practice on Monday and hit fourteen over the fence (including six in a row).

Sho Nakata took about twenty minutes of extra fielding practice at third base (forty-seven grounders) after regular workouts at the Kamagaya facilities on Monday.  Makoto Kaneko and Yuji Iiyama were also in his group.

Seibu Lions

The Lions announced that they will not offer strategy/battery coach Hidekazu Mitsuyama and batting coach Osamu Abe contracts for the 2014 season.

Softbank Hawks

Fall practices begin on the 16th.

Nao Higashihama threw sixty pitches in the bullpen.  He was supposed to start a Phoenix League game on Tuesday, but the game was canceled due to rain.  He is slated to participate in the winter leagues in Puerto Rico.
