Chunichi Dragons

GM Hiromitsu Ochiai is ok with Kenichi Nakata exercising his FA option and returning to the team.

"We will not push him away just because he exercises the option.  We are not that inflexible.  We are going to give him an offer and if he, after comparing other offers, feels our's was the best, he can come back here," Ochiai said.

He added, "I do not know what other teams do or what the Dragons did before me.  That kind of rule (exercising FA option = no return) will not be enforced while I am here."

The organization may have offered Nakata a four-deal in September.

The Dragons are looking into Yasuyuki Kataoka in case he decides to exercise his FA option.  Chunichi likes Kataoka because he can play both middle infield positions and could step in to replace one of their aging middle infielders (Hirokazu Ibata and Masahiro Araki).

Kataoka will most likely be a B-level free agent, which means any team that signs him will either have to give up money or money and a player as compensation.

The new front office is reportedly interested in bringing Kenshin Kawakami back next season.  Since the team senryokugai'ed him, they will not be able to sit down with him until after the first twelve-team tryout on November 10.

Hanshin Tigers

The Angels, Braves, Mariners, and Twins may all have an interest in Randy Messenger.  He might be able to secure an MLB contract worth over one billion yen over three years.  Messenger is hoping to have a better idea of where he will be playing in 2014 next month.

Some more Messenger quotes:

I think the timing is good in terms of my age.  I feel I have grown stronger over the last two years.  My shoulder and elbow feel fine.  I think this is a good chance for me to get a nice contract.  The Tigers have been good to me, but what kind of offer will they give me?  Will the terms be good?

I am interested in seeing what kind of offers, opportunities I might have in America.  Are there teams I want to play for?  Are they in areas I want to live in?  These are all important questions for me.  The number of years and the value of the contract is also important.

I am not planning to return to a relief role.

I would like Hanshin to know that they have a chance to wow me with an offer.

Of course, I am looking for a multi-year deal.  A one-year deal would not be good.

I do not have plans to play for any other Japanese team other than the Tigers.  I would like to return next year to help Hanshin win a championship, by working hard and being an anchor in the rotation.
