[10/18/2013] Kyushu Kokusai Daigaku Fuzoku High School player arrested on suspicion of attempted arson
Fukuoka Police arrested a seventeen-year-old student from Kyushu Kokusai Daigaku Fuzoku High School on suspicion of attempted arson. The high school held a press conference on Thursday and informed the media that the student was a member of their baseball team and voluntarily dropped out of school on the same day of the press conference. The high school does not plan on withdrawing from the Kyushu High School Tournament that is scheduled to begin on the 26th in Okinawa.
According to reports, in the early morning on June 19, the high school student spread kerosene in a first floor hallway of a four-story boys dormitory. Ninety-five first- through third-year students were sleeping in the dormitory at the time of the fire. No one was injured because a staff member quickly responded to the fire alarm.
Police are trying to find out why the student attempted to start the fire. School officials told the media they were unaware of any incidents where the student was bullied or picked on.
