Hiroshima Carp

Kan Otake did not want to speak to reporters about his domestic FA option after Friday's loss to the Yomiuri Giants.  Katsuhiro Nagakawa also has a domestic option and said, "The way I see it, playing [in Hiroshima] makes the most sense for me.  It would make me happy if the Carp felt the same way."

Kenjiro Nomura is in the final year of a one-year extension.  When asked about his plans for next season after Friday's loss to the Giants, he replied, "The season just ended.  From here.  I do not know what about what comes next."

Hanshin Tigers

As the Tigers understand it, the Twins are very interested in Randy Messenger.  They also believe Minnesota's offer is not too far out of reach for them.  In other words, the front office feels they will be able to offer Messenger a competitive package.

The Tigers are interested in adding Thomas O'Malley to their coaching staff because they feel he will be able to help foreign players make the necessary adjustments to succeed in Japan (primarily on the hitting side of things).

There are some in the organization that believe Brooks Conrad had a difficult time reading pitch patterns and may have been able to find success if there was someone was there to guide him through the process.

The new coaching staff is near completion.  An announcement could be made on the 21st.

As of now, it could end up as follows:

Yutaka Wada (manager), Masahiro Kuroda (head coach), Haruki Yoshitake (strategy/fielding/base-running coach), Koichi Sekikawa (chief batting coach), O'Malley (batting coach), Mitsunobu Takahashi (batting coach), Kiyooki Nakanishi (pitching coach), Takashi Yamaguchi (pitching coach), Nobuhiro Takashiro (INF/base-running coach), Koji Yamawaki (OF/base-running coach).

Yasunori Gonda could become the new Ni-gu training coach.
