Hanshin Tigers

Phoenix League practice game against Orix on Monday:

Hiroaki Saiuchi started the game and gave up five runs (all earned) on seven hits and a walk over five innings of work.  Three of the four runs scored on five hits in the 3rd inning. [Sanspo 10/22/2013] ... Ryosuke Ogata started in right and batted third.  He went 2-for-4.  He is now 16-for-42 in twelve Phoenix League games (includes practice games). [Sanspo 10/22/2013]

The Tigers are thinking about moving Tsuyoshi Nishioka from second to third.  The coaches feel the conversion might kill two birds with one stone: put less strain on Nishioka's left knee and give Hiroki Uemoto more playing time by using him at second.

Shintaro Fujinami might do some throwing exercises during fall camp (shadow pitching, throwing into a net, long distance catch), but will not toss any bullpen sessions until the new year.

Fujinami has a tendency to stride across his body when he pitches (his left foot tends to land toward the third base side) and the coaches are worried he might hurt himself.  This will be one of the things he works on during the off-season.

In an effort to improve stamina and perseverance, coaches will have players do a lot of running during fall camp -- about three times more than usual.

Fall camp will begin on November 1 in Aki, Kochi.
