Chiba Lotte Marines

The Marines held a press conference at QVC Marine on Tuesday to give Takumi Kobe an opportunity to issue a formal public apology for insensitive comments that were made through his Twitter account regarding a high school girl that was stabbed to death.  The team suspended Kobe on the 11th after they learned of the tweets he made.  His suspension will run through to the 31st.  He will then report to fall camp in Kamogawa, Chiba.

According to team investigations, a childhood friend volunteered to keep Kobe's Twitter account active.  The insensitive tweets were made by the friend and were not aimed at the death of the high school girl, but rather compromising images of the girl that later surfaced.  Regardless, the team still finds Kobe at fault since the tweets were made on his behalf and were his responsibility to monitor.

Kobe's blog and Twitter account have since been closed.
