Pro scout Kazuyuki Atsuzawa will become the team's new pitching coach in 2014.  Naoki Matoba will take over as the Ni-gun battery coach.  Atsuzawa has been assigned the number eighty-four and Matoba the number eighty-two.  The two were introduced during a press conference at the Kamagaya facilities on Saturday.

Softbank Hawks

Nobuhiro Matsuda is trying out a few things with his hitting mechanics that might eventually lead to him no longer hopping on his right leg after he finishes his swing.  Whether or not the changes stick will depend on how things go this fall (and perhaps into the spring).

Matsuda took swings with a tube tied around his right knee to keep him from shifting all his weight to his front foot.  Coaches are also trying to get him to use more lower body and less upper body.
