[10/30/2013] Rumors: Hiroshima Carp, Yokohama Bay Stars, Rakuten Eagles

by on Oct.31, 2013 @ 3:10 am, under NPB

Hiroshima Carp

The Carp would like Kenta Kurihara to return next season as insurance in case someone gets hurt.  Kurihara wants playing time, but may not get it with Hiroshima since they already have a first baseman (he could try another position, but he is not sure if that is what he wants to do).  However, hitting the free agent market and signing with another team would not guarantee him an everyday position since he has spent the last two seasons working through injuries.  His high salary this past season will also most likely make him a class-A free agent, which means any teams that signs him will owe the Carp compensation in the form of money or money and a player.

The Carp have decided to move pitching coach Kenji Furusawa to their baseball academy in the Dominican Republic next year.

Yokohama Bay Stars

The Bay Stars sat down with Futoshi Kobayashi on Tuesday and gave him two options: either take an extreme cut in pay (over twenty percent) or an outright release.  If he re-signs, the team is planning to trade him.
