Yomiuri Giants

Shukan Bunshun published an article about an encounter Tetsuya Utsumi had in the past with a cabaret club woman in Hiroshima and the trouble that ensued.  Utsumi ultimately spoke to the Giants about the situation and the matter was later taken to the police by the Yomiuri Group.

Chunichi Dragons

Fall camp will take place at Nagoya Stadium between November 1 and 24.  Players will get the day off on the 5th, 11th, 15th, and 22nd.  The stands will remain open to fans for free.

GM Hiromitsu Ochiai is planning to begin contract extension talks on November 5, beginning with the team's everyday players/veterans.  He is also hoping to have all players signed to new contracts by the end of November.

Contract talks in early November are about a month earlier than usual for most NPB teams.  Generally speaking, lower level contracts are settled early on, with higher level negotiations pushed back to late-November and early-December.  However, by pushing everything up a month and getting higher level contracts signed early on, the organization will have a clearer idea of what they have to work with and players will be free to do whatever they want in December without having to worry about scheduling issues.

The two sides agreed on a one-year contract.  O'Malley will begin coaching players during fall camp.

According to Tokyo Sports, some in the organization are worried about O'Malley's coaching methods -- the last time around, he skipped over base hitting techniques and only had players focus on hitting the ball the other way during spring camp.

Hitting coordinator Masayuki Kakefu is scheduled to coach players during fall camp in Kochi.  However, he will have to return to Osaka a few times during camp because of contract work he agreed to before joining the Tigers.  During his trips back to Osaka, he plans to spend some of his free time watching over the group of players that have been assigned to work out at the Naruohama facilities.

Shintaro Fujinami started playing catch on Tuesday for the first time in about ten days, not twenty (as previously reported in another post).

Yutaka Wada, Kakefu, hitting coaches Koichi Sekikawa and Mitsunobu Takahashi, and GM Katsuhiro Nakamura met at a hotel in Osaka on Monday.  They spoke about a number of things, including how things looked from the outside and workout plans for players during camp.

The Tigers are planning to play practice games against Orix and LG (KBO) during fall camp.
