Softbank Hawks

Yuki Yanagita took batting practice with a tennis ball on Saturday -- he had to shuffle his feet toward the ball and swing each time.  It was apparently an exercise to help strengthen the lower body.

Eleven of thirteen pitchers tossed bullpen session on the first day of fall camp on Friday.  A number of them, including Shota Oba and Kodai Senga, threw over 100 pitches.

Sadaharu Oh wants to see pitchers go deeper into games and believes they should do more throwing.  He cited the 1,000-baseball fielding drill and boxers sparring for fifteen rounds to prepare for a twelve-round fight as examples of how increasing workload can put bodies into situations where there are moments of perfect execution.  Oh has also suggested giving pitchers better bonuses for tossing complete games.  Softbank pitchers are expected to do a lot more throwing this off-season.

Ryota Igarashi will continue to work on his fork.  There were a number of times he wanted to throw the pitch this season, but opted not to because his other pitches were better.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Takumi Kobe showed up to the first day of fall camp on Friday with his head shaved.  Kobe was suspended from October 11 to October 31 for inappropriate messages that were posted with his Twitter account.  He apologized to teammates and staff during a full-team meeting on Thursday.  The workouts on Friday were his first since his suspension.  He took seventy-seven swings during batting practice and hit two over the fence.

Orix Buffaloes

Kazunao Yamamoto's first day of fall camp on Friday ended before it had a chance to start.  Yamamoto started feeling sick during speeches made by the team owner and manager before practices.  He left the group and threw up.  He was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a minor case of enteritis.  Hiroshi Moriwaki told reporters if Yamamoto was not ready to go by Saturday, he would be shipped back to Kobe because otherwise, it would be a waste of expenses.
