Chunichi Dragons

Yuta Muto hurt his right leg during practices on Saturday.  He was diagnosed with a strain in his right calf.  He will require about three weeks for a full recovery.

The Dragons are planning to play two intra-squad games during the third block of fall camp (on the 12th and 14th).  The games will be used as a way to see if the things players are working on are sticking.

Yakult Swallows

The coaches are having players wear a five kilogram vest while taking soft-toss batting practice.  The Swallows got the idea after seeing Hiroshima players work out with a similar vest during the Phoenix League.  The vests supposedly help players strengthen trunk muscles, keep weight down low, and tighten the sides to improve inside-out swings and balance.

Hiroshima Carp

There will be no evening practices during fall camp.  However, players are expected to look over game footage from the past season and review their performances.

Kenjiro Nomura plans to have some of the younger players workout at multiple positions during fall camp.

Shota Dobayashi - third, first, right
Ryuhei Matsuyama - first, third, outfield
Tetsuya Kokubo - all infield positions
Takashi Uemoto - second, short, third
Tomohiro Abe - second, short, third, outfield
Seiya Suzuki - third, short, outfield

Nomura feels that giving players a chance at another position might help them with other aspects of their game.  For example, Dobayashi is not spectacular at third and struggled offensively this season.  A move to first or right might not only suit him defensively, but could also allow him to focus on his hitting.

There is also another benefit of having players on the roster that can play multiple positions: if a player gets hurt, they can easily be replaced by someone else on the roster.

The Carp are scheduled to play one intra-squad game and one practice game against Seibu during fall camp.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Unhappy with the way the organization is treating Norihiro Nakamura and Kazunari Tsuruoka (Yokohama told the two veterans they can either accept their offers or be released, and that they had to make that decision by the end of the Nippon Series), the players held a meeting with a number of people from the front office.  GM Shigeru Takada explained that the team was well within its rights to release (senryokugai) players up to one day after the Nippon Series.  The players argued that while the team might not be breaking any rules, they were ruining their relationship with players.
