Hiromitsu Ochiai negotiated salaries with seven players on Tuesday and gave out just one raise worth four million yen to Yuta Muto.  And to three players, he cut salaries by the maximum amount allowed: Masahiro Araki by forty percent and Kohei Oda and Takehiro Donoue by twenty-five percent each.

Hiroshima Carp

The Carp played an intra-squad game during fall camp on Wednesday.  Rainel Rosario batted clean-up for the Whites and hit two home runs. Ryuhei Matsuyama went 3-for-4.  Jumpei Ono tossed four shutout innings, Kyohei Nakamura gave up three runs over four innings, Yuki Iwami gave up two runs over three innings, and Ryosuke Ikenouchi gave up four runs over three innings.

Takeru Imamura told reporters that he had problems with keeping his left shoulder closed when pitching this year, most likely because he got into some bad habits while throwing the shuto during the World Baseball Classic.  Now at fall camp, he is trying a number of things to keep the shoulder closed, like shifting his spot on the rubber from the first base side to closer toward the center and trying to throw across his body (slightly).

Hanshin Tigers

Minoru Iwata is scheduled to pitch in a practice game against Orix on the 12th.  Iwata will be the second pitcher in the game for Hanshin and will toss three innings.  He threw 100 pitches in the bullpen on Tuesday.

The Tigers will open the season against the Yomiuri Giants at Tokyo Dome next year.  Shintaro Fujinami pitched fairly well against them this year and could become a candidate for the opening day start.  If he does get the start, he will become the fifth nineteen-year-old pitcher to get an opening day start in franchise history, first since Kazunori Nishimura in 1959.

Development coordinator Masayuki Kakefu does not want young players to worry about making mistakes, particularly during fall camp, when they should be trying out new things.

Yokohama Bay Stars

The Bay Stars have come up with a list of twenty-eight things players should be careful about during fall camp.  The following six are things that have been banned: going out, driving, two people on a bicycle, going out with sandals, smoking, and playing handheld games when the team travels.

The list was put together by the GM, team president, and manager.

Workouts on Tuesday ran over eight hours (from 10:00 to past 18:00).
