Rakuten Eagles

  • The Eagles visited 4th round draft pick Yuri Furukawa at Arita Kogyo High School on Friday.  Furukawa tops out at 148km/h.  He tossed sixty-five innings this past summer (forty-seven in five games during the Saga regional tournament and then eighteen innings during the Summer Koshien) and struck out sixty. Hanshin Tigers

  • The Tigers would like to start 1st round Yuta Iwasada at Ichi-gun spring camp next year, assuming they find no glaring reasons why they should not. [Daily Sports 11/9/2013]
  • 4th round draft pick Ryutaro Umeno went 2-for-2 with a walk and an HBP during a university tournament game against Fukuoka Kogyo University on Thursday.  He was the starting catcher and batted clean-up. [Nikkan Sports 11/8/2013, Sanspo 11/8/2013] ... Umeno went 0-for-3 in a university tournament game against Nippon Bunri on Friday.  He was the starting catcher and batted clean-up. Yomiuri Giants

  • The Giants are planning to give 1st round draft pick Seiji Kobayashi the number twenty-two.  The number has been worn by Daisuke Ochi, but he will likely take a new number to symbolize his new start after a surgical procedure he underwent to treat ossification of the yellow ligament in 2012.
