Shintaro Fujinami will be ordering a new pair of cleats that has two more spikes than the ones he used this past season (from six to eight).  The added spikes should give Fujinami a more traction on the mound.

The Tigers are limiting the number of events Fujinami attends during the off-season to make sure he can properly focus on the 2014 season.

The Tigers are planning to "temporarily retire" the number thirty-one until they find a player worthy of it.

"We are not expecting any new players to wear the number thirty-one.  We would like to give it to a left-handed hitter.  There are no players we can give the number to right now," a team official said.

The organization is also planning to give non-performing players with "good" uniform numbers new digits this off-season.

The same team official added, "There are a lot of players that have not performed to the expectations of the numbers they were assigned over the last few years.  We also have a tendency to give out good numbers to new players.  That may have placed too much pressure on them.  It might be better to hand good numbers to a player after they have shown they can perform."
