Nippon Ham Fighters

Manabu Iwadate retired at the end of the season.  The Fighters announced on Thursday that he joined the staff as a pro scout.

The Fighters also held a press conference at Kamagaya on Thursday to introduce their newest additions to the coaching staff: Junichi KashiwabaraTakaya Hayashi, and Makoto Kosaka.

Seibu Lions

Kazuhisa Makita will most likely be named the team's next player's chairman.

Softbank Hawks

Brandon Mann threw thirty-two pitches in the bullpen on Wednesday.  He was seen using a throwing motion similar to Jeff Williams.

"I watched footage.  My fastball is a little faster and I am getting a bigger break on my slider," Mann said.

Loek Van Mil tossed forty-five pitches in the bullpen on Wednesday.  Oh watched the session and was surprised at how high his release point was.

Barbaro Canizares spent about thirty minutes talking to Oh about baseball in Japan and how it is different from what is played in other countries like the US and Mexico.  Canizares took fifty-six swings during batting practice and recorded twenty-six could-be hits, including three that went over the fence.  He is scheduled to workout with the team until the 19th.

Rakuten Eagles

The Eagles are planning to use Masahiro Tanaka as the person that goes out to the mound to talk to pitchers.

Potential starting rotation for the Asia Series: Wataru Karashima, Satoshi Nagai, Sho Miyagawa, and Kenji Tomura.

Seibu Lions 1 - Softbank Hawks 6 @ Ivy Stadium on Thursday

  • Ryohei Fujiwara (Seibu) started the game and allowed five runs over five innings of work -- he allowed just one hit through three and then gave up five runs in the 4th.
  • Hirotaka Koishi (Seibu) entered the game in the 6th and tossed two perfect innings (Kl, G5, Ks; G4, Ks, G1).
  • Shogo Saito (Seibu) started in center and batted lead-off.  He went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases: 1B9, Ks, G2.
  • Yuji Kaneko (Seibu) started at short and batted seventh.  He went 1-for-3: G3, BB, F9, 1B6.
  • The Hawks sent nine hitters to the plate in the 4th and scored five runs on six hits.
  • Shota Oba (Softbank) started the game and allowed one run on three hits over three innings of work.  He allowed a run to score on two hits in the 1st.  He held the offense to just one hit over the next two innings.
  • Ryota Igarashi (Softbank) entered the game in the 4th and put runners on second and third before getting out of the inning (BB, Ks, G3, BB, G5).
  • Nagisa Arakaki (Softbank) entered the game in the 7th and tossed a shutout inning in relief (G3, E6, L6, G5).
  • Taiga Kasahara (Softbank) entered the game in the 8th and retired the side in order (F4, F8, G4).
