Yokohama Bay Stars

  • 3rd round draft pick Hiroki Minei played in a university tournament game today.  He was the starting catcher and batted fifth.  He went 3-for-4 with an RBI. [Sanspo 11/17/2013]

Chunichi Dragons

  • The Dragons will most likely give 1st round draft pick Shota Suzuki the number eighteen as a sign of their hopes that he becomes their next ace (Junki Ito will be given a new number).  Since being drafted, he has been running the distance to his high school every day (about twelve kilometers).  He also started tossing bullpen sessions (fifty to sixty pitches). Suzuki bumped into Suzuki Motor Corporation's chairman, Osamu Suzuki, after his contract press conference on on Saturday.  Osamu Suzuki is a big Chunichi fan and is looking forward to Shota Suzuki's development over the next two to three years. Hiroshima Carp

  • 1st round draft pick Daichi Osera knows that for him, pitching is not about velocity, but about movement and control.  He was able to confirm this idea while writing a graduation thesis on his performance at the university level. "Batting averages against were lower when seventy to eighty percent of the pitches were thrown in the mid 140s.  I tried to throw the ball hard during my first year and got hit.  I worked on the movement of my pitches during my second year and started striking hitters out.  Movement and control are important," Osera said.   • 2nd round draft pick Allen Kuri started a university tournament game today.  He tossed seven shutout innings against Hachinohe University.  He faced twenty-six batters, threw 113 pitches, gave up three hits, and struck out twelve. [Sanspo 11/17/2013]
  • The Carp signed 5th round draft pick Yuta Nakamura to a provisional contract today.  He was assigned the number sixty-seven. [Daily Sports 11/17/2013]

Yomiuri Giants

  • When 3rd round draft pick Kazuto Taguchi was a fourth year elementary school student, he wrote an essay about how he wanted to invite Tatsunori Hara to a yakisoba party after winning a championship with the Giants.  He also drew a picture of him recording the game-winning hit, of him making the yakisoba, and of Hara eating the yakisoba. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • 3rd round draft pick Hiromi Oka played in a university tournament game against Dohto University today.  He started at first and batted clean-up.  He went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. [Daily Sports 11/17/2013]

  • 5th round draft pick Takayuki Yamaguchi will likely start 2014 at Ni-gun spring camp because he has struggled with injuries over the last couple years. [Sports Hochi 11/17/2013]
