[11/19/2013] Rumors: Orix Buffaloes, Softbank Hawks, Rakuten Eagles, Hanshin Tigers

Orix Buffaloes

According to Tokyo Sports, the Buffaloes are looking into Wily Mo Pena as a possible replacement for Dae-Ho Lee.  The organization is looking at candidates in the US, but Pena interests Orix because he put up solid numbers in his first year and was primarily hampered by an injury this year.  They feel he might be less of a risk than signing someone that has no experience of playing in Japan.

Softbank Hawks

The Hawks are planning to meet Dae-Ho Lee's agent some time early next month.  The team may be preparing a three to four year deal worth 1.6 to 1.8 billion yen (includes incentives).

Tokyo Sports has heard rumors that Jason Standridge might sign with the Hawks if offered a deal because he and his wife enjoyed living in Hakata when he played for Softbank in 2007 and 2008.

Rakuten Eagles

Senichi Hoshino told reporters on Monday that he wants the organization to sign at least two foreign pitchers.  The Eagles are said to be looking into players like Jason Standridge and Brian Wolfe.

Hanshin Tigers

The Tigers will send an official to the US to finalize their deal with Mauro Gomez.  Thomas O'Malley will most likely accompany the official and will be in charge of giving Gomez a primer on playing baseball in Japan.

The official will also finalize contracts with Randy Messenger and Matt Murton.

The Tigers are not too worried about communicating with Gomez since they have received word he can speak English fairly well.  They plan to have O'Malley assist with his transition to Japanese baseball and culture.  They also have one person on the staff that can speak a little Spanish, if needed.

O'Malley will return to the US immediately after fall camp ends on the 20th.  He will meet up with Hanshin and Gomez at a location thirty minutes from Los Angeles International Airport on the 21st.  O'Malley also has plans to meet Murton on the 25th.
