[11/23/2013] Masahiro Tanaka News and Notes

by on Nov.23, 2013 @ 11:15 am, under NPB

Masahiro Tanaka met team president Yozo Tachibana on Friday.  Their meeting lasted about fifteen minutes.  There was no significant discussions on posting, other than basic questions Tanaka had on the current status of talks -- they plan to discuss the matter once the rules are firmly in place.

Tachibana feels December 10 will be a deadline of sorts -- at some point, they will have to draw a line in the sand, otherwise it could make things complicated for Tanaka.

Sports Hochi has posted portions of the media's interaction with Tanaka and Tachibana on Friday.

Tanaka -

What did you and Tachibana talk about?

I asked him what he knew about the current situation.

Did you say anything to him?

Not really.

What did you talk about?

We exchanged some words about the season.  And then I just asked about the stuff he currently knows.

Was there anything you did not know?

With regards to that, I am not really involved with any of it, so there is a lot I do not understand.

There will be delays in the new posting agreement.

I have nothing to say about that.

On meeting today.

I have spoken to him a number of times.  But I think it was good to set aside time like this at the end of the season.

Tachibana -

Will the team's decision change based on what the new rules of the posting system turn out to be?

It is a clean slate right now.  The only thing I can say is that we will make a decision once the system is in place.

Will you talk to Tanaka about what he wants to do after the system is set in place?

Yes.  There is also talk about how he might be able to head overseas even if there is no posting system.  As I understand it, that would be fairly difficult and the risks might be fairly big.

What about the posting system?

It has been expired for a year.  That is a problem in itself, it should have been done sooner.  This is not about Tanaka, but as one of twelve teams, this is something we should support.

Would you like to see him stay?

That is something separate.  We have been saying it all along.  We would like him to stay, but we have been stressing the importance of what he wants to do.

Right now, the salary is set for three years.

That is something we will deal with after the system is in place.  I am not sure when, but that will be considered as well.
