Taishi Ota was given the number fifty-five with the hopes that he could become the next big-name player in the organization, like the former owner of the number, Hideki Matsui.  The Giants have not given up on the twenty-three-year-old, but might opt to give him a different number to take away some of the pressure from wearing the number.

Motonobu Tanishige hinted that the spring camp schedule will most likely be one day off for every six days of practices.  The first day off could come on February 7, which is a Friday.  This would make sure that fans that come out to watch workouts on the weekends will always have something to see.
