Of the thirteen free agents the Giants have signed over the years (nine position players and six pitchers; excluding current players on the team like Shuichi Murata and Toshiya Sugiuchi), only Kazuhisa Yamaguchi was able to retire while wearing a Yomiuri uniform.  Five players signed with other NPB teams, three were selected as compensation, one went to the US, one to Korea, one signed with an independent league team in Japan, and Michihiro Ogasawara exercised his FA option this off-season and signed with Chunichi.

Chunichi Dragons

Masahiro Yamamoto is watching his weight because at his age, more weight can place more strain on the body, particularly the legs.  He wants to keep his weight in the ninety kilogram range.

Motonobu Tanishige is not ready to give up on being an everyday catcher.

"I am confident that I can still be the primary catcher.  I will do my best so that Tanishige the manager will use me.  That means the team needs to win.  I want to be a winning catcher," Tanishige said.

Hanshin Tigers

Seung Hwan Oh is due to arrive in Japan on the 10th.  He will likely check out places to live during his visit.  The Tigers are planning to prepare three to four possible options.  A number of things will be taken into consideration, like proximity to restaurants, training facilities, and public transportation.

Oh started working on a splitter this past season.

"My fingers are on the short side so I cannot throw a forkball.  I tried throwing a splitter by spreading out my index finger and middle finger a little.  While the fastball and slider are very important, it is also important to recognized when an breaking pitch is needed," Oh said.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Kazumasa Kikuchi met with the front office today to negotiate his salary for the 2014 season.  His discussions ended up taking an hour because he kept making mistakes when filling out his papers -- he first made a mistake writing his address and then made a mistake writing out the date.

Kikuchi will be working out in Thailand again this off-season.  He will also help promote baseball during his stay -- he has plans to hold a baseball clinic and will donate some baseball equipment -- balls courtesy the Bay Stars and one set of catching equipment and five gloves.
