The Giants are planning to invite Shigeo Nagashima to take a swing at the ceremonial first pitch on opening day at Tokyo Dome next season.  Sadaharu Oh might be called into the throw out the pitch.  Other options include Hideki Matsui and Yutaka Enatsu.  Tatsunori Hara could reprise his role as the catcher.

The Giants were interested in Jason Standrige, but at thirty-five, were also worried about his age and may not have wanted to go more than one year on a contract with him.

Michihiro Ogasawara appeared in public on Friday with some facial hair.

"This is for the fans.  It was brought up [during my press conference], so I thought I would give it a go for everyone.  I plan on shaving it.  I might grow it out based on how I feel, but I might not," Ogasawara said.

Hiroshima Carp

Shota Dobayashi is planning to switch up his equipment next season -- he ordered a Hayato Sakamoto model bat, a Shuichi Murata model third baseman's glove, and a Hisayoshi Chono model outfielder's glove.

Dobayashi used a Shinya Miyamoto model glove this season.  The Murata glove is not largely different from the Miyamoto glove, other than what might be a slightly larger pocket.

He ordered an outfielder's glove for the first time and selected something on the small side, which ended up being a Chono model.

His bat will be slightly longer, from the 33.5 inches (85.09 centimeters) he used this season to thirty-four inches (86.36 centimeters).  It will also be weighted closer to the handle instead of the barrel.
