Yomiuri Giants

Shinnosuke Abe bumped into Seibu Lion Yusei Kikuchi while working out in Kapiolani Park and suggested the lefty try throwing breaking pitches long distances (about fifty meters) to improve his feel for the pitch.  It was the same advice Abe got when he once asked Chunichi head coach Shigekazu Mori what kinds of things teammate Hirokazu Sawamura could do to improve his control.

Chunichi Dragons

Just like last season, Hitoki Iwase will continue to approach future seasons one year at a time with an eye on retirement (if he feels he is no longer effective).

Yakult Swallows

Takanori Sato has been playing catch with his left arm.  His right arm is not very accurate and he feels that he has better throwing mechanics with his left arm.  He is still in the process of strengthening his left side and getting used to throwing with it.  He can now throw the ball a distance of about sixty meters.

Ryota Arai has been using a Shuichi Murata model third baseman's glove during his workouts since the Mizuno Staff Meeting on the 6th.  It was also the day he had a chance to talk to Murata about being a third baseman.

"[The glove] is a little smaller than the ones I have used before.  It provides a better fit.  The thumb area is made of strong leather and feels like it will handle hard-hit grounders well.  A lot of tough balls tend to go toward third, perhaps this can help improve my chances at fielding the ball.  I am giving it a try with the hopes that it will make me better," Arai said.

The Tigers may go after Daisuke Miura if the Yokohama Bay Stars leave him off their list of protected players.
