[12/18/2013] Chiba Lotte Marines come to terms with Hideaki Wakui

The Chiba Lotte Marines announced that they came to terms with twenty-seven-year-old pitcher Hideaki Wakui.  The two sides reportedly agreed on a two-year deal worth an estimated 220 million yen plus incentives (per season, or an estimated 440 million yen in total).  A press conference will be held on the 25th.

    Wow, can’t believe any team would be dumb enough to give this guy a deal like this. Although he has shown promise as a reliever over the past two years, he’s been a terrible starter. He just doesn’t have the same stuff that he did in his big years.

      He’s looked pretty decent off and on as a starter – I distinctly remember him kampu’ing us in April this year – and he was pretty magic out of the pen in September/October.

      I’m not a huge fan of the signing but if there’s any situation where he’s going to thrive it’s going to be in his home prefecture, pitching with his sempai, and with his former manager in the dugout.
