Yomiuri Giants

Kan Otake and Takahiro Aoki worked out in Toyohashi, Aichi for about two hours on Friday.  Otake has already finished moving his things to the Tokyo area.

Yoshinobu Takahashi seriously considered retirement after he suffered a left calf strain in April.  But he felt he still had something left in him after he returned in late-June and managed to put up decent numbers in a limited amount of time.

"I still feel the desire to play for as long as possible.  I want to retire on my own terms," Takahashi said.

Hayato Sakamoto has apparently turned down most requests for him to make appearances in public (both TV shows and various fan meetings).  Sakamoto may be feeling a sense of urgency after the team signed Hirokazu Ibata and Yasuyuki Kataoka this winter.

Chunichi Dragons

General Manager Hiromitsu Ochiai is currently slated to check out the team beginning on the first day of spring camp.  He could also spend some time checking on other teams like the Yomiuri Giants and Hanshin Tigers.

The Dragons started using a special fielding frame during fall camp -- the height of the top bar of the frame is about a meter off the ground and players try to remain underneath it while fielding baseballs.  The same frame, with a adjustable height top bar, will be used during spring camp.

Kyohei Muranaka's wife gave birth to the couple's first child, a boy weighing 3,154 grams, at a hospital in Tokyo on the 17th.

Ryota Arai arrived at spring camp last season weighing 102 kilograms.  He currently weighs ninety-seven and is hoping to maintain that weight for spring camp next year.
