The media learned today that NPB Commissioner Adviser Katsuhiko Kumazaki will be named the next commissioner of the NPB. The decision is expected to become final during a special owners meeting on the 26th. A managing director that presides under the commissioner could also be selected. Candidates with financial backgrounds are being considered.
It has taken some time for the owners to narrow down prospective candidates because there was a disconnect between the two leagues: the Central League was looking for an old-school commissioner whereas the Pacific League wanted someone with a financial background. The CL got behind Kumazaki early on during the process while the PL remained split until they agreed on the possibility of electing a managing director with a financial background.
