Shingo Kawabata added yoga to his training program this off-season to improve his flexibility.  He had his first lesson on Monday.

Shohei Tateyama was working out in Hawaii but had to return for a few days to get a routine check-up on his right elbow (Tommy John surgery in April).  He returned to Hawaii on Monday to continue his training.  He is hoping to toss a bullpen session on the nine-month anniversary of his surgery (January 11, 2014).

The media learned today that Ryosuke Kikuchi had his tonsils removed on the 17th.

The Carp could be looking at a couple of pitchers as part of their compensation for losing Kan Otake to the Yomiuri Giants.  Possibilities include Ryuji Ichioka, Seiji Tahara, and Katsuhiko Kumon.  Hiroshima could contact the Giants this week with their decision.

Hanshin Tigers

Takumi Akiyama is planning to use the stairs (1,368 stairs spanning a distance of about six kilometers) at Kotohira-gu shrine in Kagawa as part of his workouts in January.

Ryota Imanari will be working out with Orix's Yoshio Itoi in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka next month.  Workouts will include a lot of running and lower body strengthening exercises.

Ichi-gun Assistant Batting Coach Thomas O'Malley might end up living in a hotel about a minute away from Koshien Stadium next year.  The proximity to the stadium will allow him to maximize time spent on helping players like Matt Murton and newcomer Mauro Gomez.
