Hiroshima Carp

Hiroshima's San-gun was reserved for players that were rehabbing injuries.  The media learned on Friday that San-gun will include a new strengthening department next season for struggling Ni-gun players.  San-gun pitching coach Hayato Aoki and San-gun advance scout/scorer Hideki Kishimoto have been assigned to the department.

Hanshin Tigers

Atsushi Nomi appeared at a talk event at Koshien on Friday and spoke about his FA option and this year's Climax Series.

On his FA option: "I am not thinking about anything.  I have never earned the option before.  Honestly, if I was still in my twenties, then it would be something I would have to think about, but I am going to be thirty-five next year.  It does not really matter.  I think I will be with the Tigers."

Climax Series: "I thought if I was going to pitch, it would be in the first game.  I wanted to pitch against [Kenta Maeda].  But in considering the amount of pressure pitching in the first game and the third game with the series tied at one, I can understand the argument for pitching [Shintaro Fujinami] in the first game."

Kiyoshi Nakahata's ideal starting rotation does not include Daisuke Miura or Shugo Fujii.  It does include (in no particular order) 1st round draft pick Yuta Kakita, 4th round draft pick Tomoya Mikami, Kazuki Mishima, Shoichi Ino, Yasutomo Kubo, and Hisanori Takahashi.

"I want the younger pitchers to push past Miura.  If the rotation can function with Miura and Fujii are extras, then our pitching staff will be that much stronger," Nakahata said.

Bottom line -- none of the veteran starters will get a free ticket to the starting rotation and younger pitchers will be pushed harder to step up since they are the future.  Guillermo Moscoso is also a candidate for the starting rotation.
