Kazuhiro Wada dropped about six kilograms this off-season and now weighs around eighty-four kilograms.

"The last ten years or so, I have been close to ninety kilograms.  This year, I thought I might try at around eighty-four or eighty-five kilograms.  I dropped six kilograms over two months.  I wanted to change something to ensure my health over the year," Wada said.

Wada also said, "I will be ok even if I take a hit on power.  With this body, I should be able to swing the bat, run, and field the ball energetically.  I would like to make a fast break at 2,000 [hits] by starting slow as usual and working my way to top shape.  I want to shoot for my first .300 season in four years and win a championship."

Yakult Swallows

Kazuhiro Hatakeyama worked out at the Jingu indoor training facilities today.  He took some batting practice for the first time in about a month -- he suffered a stress fracture late last year and resumed batting practice in November, but later stopped because he still felt some pain.

"I no longer feel pain because I was able to get good rest.  If there is no pain, I can swing the bat the way I want to," Hatakeyama said.  "I will slowly ramp things up over the two weeks leading up to [spring] camp."

1st round draft pick Toshihiro Sugiura is a little preoccupied.  He wants to get his drivers license before the start of the season and is attending a driving school in Futakotamagawa and is spending most of his free time on that.  The commute has not made things any easier (from Toda in Saitama to Futakotamagawa in Tokyo).  To help save time, he might switch to a school closer to him in Toda.
