Tatsuya Oishi on his right shoulder: "I hurt my shoulder at the end of last season and could not practice much in November or December.  But, I am back to around seventy to eighty percent right now.  I am trying to see if I can be ready by spring camp," Oishi said.

Takahiro Okada is trying to drop his weight from 104 kilograms to ninety-eight kilograms this off-season.

"I am wearing a sauna suit during [workouts].  I have gone from 104 to ninety-nine," Okada said.

Shun Tono, Tomoyuki Kaida, and Shohei Tsukahara have been working out in Kumamoto.

Tono has nothing but horse on the mind, in the year of the horse.

"The horse.  During workouts I do a lot of running like a horse and for meals I am eating horse for the nutrition.  I am preparing for camp by working on my lower body because it is the foundation of pitching," Tono said.

The media learned that 1st round draft pick Kazumasa Yoshida had his lower left wisdom tooth removed on the 7th (the procedure took about an hour and required stitches).  He is still taking painkillers and antibiotics because the pain has not fully subsided (he had difficulty sleeping on Saturday night).
