"It has been a while since I threw off an incline, so I wanted to check on a few things.  I only threw two or three pitches hard and it felt good.  I think things are going well," Matsui said.

Ni-gun pitching coach Tsutomu Sakai compared Matsui's pitch quality to Yomiuri's Toshiya Sugiuchi and his delivery to Softbank's Hideki Okajima.

Matsui is scheduled to toss another session on the 19th.

1st round draft pick Ren Kajiya plans to keep his face shaved and his hair short.  He was once told that facial hair could mess with a pitcher's balance.
