Yomiuri Giants

5th round draft pick Kentaro Taira led all members of the 2013 draft class by running a total distance 2,320 meters during a Yo-Yo Fitness Test today.  He also finished with the best time in a 3,000-meter run.

There are some in the organization that believe Hirokazu Sawamura does not use his head enough when pitching.  They feel it is one of the reasons why he has not been able to record a winning season.

The Giants are celebrating their 80th anniversary this year.  The Hanshin Tigers will be celebrating their 80th anniversary next year.   The two teams will collaborate on a number of events this year and next.

1st round draft pick Daichi Osera tossed twenty-one pitches (fastballs) to a standing catcher in the bullpen today.  It was his first session in over a month.  He threw at seventy to eighty percent.

Osera had originally planned to end the session after twenty pitches, but threw one more because he did not want to end things with a bad throw.

Pitching coach Yasuyuki Yamauchi is thinking about putting Osera on the same kind of schedule they used for pitchers like Yuya Fukui and Yusuke Nomura during their first years.   Fukui had problems with his left thigh and did not get to pitch in his first game until March 5 (exhibition vs Lotte).  Nomura made his debut during an intra-squad game on February 28 before pitching in an exhibition game on March 4 (vs Chunichi).  This could mean if Osera is healthy he could pitch in his first game some time in late-February.

2nd round draft pick Allen Kuri is scheduled to toss a bullpen session on the 20th.

While pitching coach Yamauchi sees 4th round draft pick Keita Nishihara pitching out of the bullpen, starting remains a possibility.

Hisashi Takeuchi tossed thirty-one pitches to a standing catcher on Friday.  It was his first bullpen of the year.  Takeuchi has been working on his lower body this off-season (particularly his adductor muscles) because he was relying too much on his upper body and wanted more balance and stability in his delivery.
