Softbank Hawks

Edison Barrios arrived in Japan from Venezuela today.  Barrios told reporters that he did not know about the team's acquisitions during the off-season and would try not to think about it too much.  He also said that he was already tossing bullpen sessions with squatting catchers.  He is scheduled to resume his workouts at the Saitozaki training facilities on the 22nd.

Tadashi Settsu is thinking about adding a cutter or shuto because he wants to expand his repertoire and mix things up a bit more.  He feels he might have gone as far as he can with his sinker and curve.

Settsu worked out in Nagasaki today.  His workouts included some futsal, running, and playing catch.  He also threw sixty-two pitches, including breaking balls, off a mound.  He had someone stand in the batter's box during the session.

Kenta Imamiya started participating in the Kangyo (Cold Water Ritual) after the 2011 season.  He feels a sense of accomplishment after performing the ritual and believes it could be helping him on the field (even if it might just be a coincidence).

Orix Buffaloes

Yuki Nishi wanted to improve his stamina this off-season and did enough running to drop his fat content by about three percentage points.  He also did a lot of trunk strengthening exercises.

Satoshi Komatsu is planning to try out a mouthpiece when he pitches during spring camp.  He had the mouthpiece made during fall camp and has already started using it when tossing bullpen sessions.  Komatsu has a tendency to bite down on his lips.  The mouthpiece should prevent that while allowing him to harness his power better.

1st round draft pick Kazumasa Yoshida threw thirty-four pitches to a standing catcher in the bullpen today.  3rd round draft pick Kenya Wakatsuki caught the session.  It was Yoshida's first session at the team facilities in Kobe.  He could toss up to two bullpens during the next block of draft class training camp.

If the Buffaloes cannot sign a power bat off the overseas market before the start of the regular season, Hiroshi Moriwaki could turn to Yoshio Itoi.

Orix is considering a number of options on the overseas market, including Alex Cabrera and various other names that might not make the twenty-five man MLB rosters.  Cabrera could be an interesting option, but it seems the organization currently favors waiting to see which players become available.
