Yomiuri Giants

Tomoyuki Sugano threw twenty-five pitches, including his curve, slider, and cutter, to a standing catcher in the bullpen at Giants Stadium on Tuesday.  It was his first session of the year.

5th round draft pick Kentaro Taira returned to Okinawa for his high school final examinations after participating in morning workouts on Tuesday.  Draft class training camp will end on the 23rd.  His exams run through to the 24th.

Shintaro Fujinami threw thirty-four pitches, including his curve, slider, fork, change, cutter, and two-seamer, during his bullpen session on Monday.  Ikusei Fumihito Haraguchi was the catcher, but Akihito Fujii also stepped in partway through and caught six pitches.  Fujii was impressed with how well Fujinami was handling the changes to his mechanics to address his tendency to throw across his body.  The veteran catcher also said he saw improvements in the quality of his fastball.

1st round draft pick Yuta Iwasada and 3rd round draft pick Naomasa Yokawa did not attend practices at Naruohama on Monday.  Iwasada was still recovering from a fever that has so far required five days of rest.  Yokawa missed his first day of workouts with a fever.

According to Nikkan Sports, Yokawa was diagnosed with a medical illness while getting examined at a hospital on Monday for his fever.  He was kept in the hospital overnight and released on Tuesday.  Both Iwasada and Yokowa rested at the team dormitory on Tuesday.

The remaining four members of the 2013 draft class had the day off on Tuesday, but still spent some time on workouts.

Hiroshima Carp

Ryuji Ichioka tossed a bullpen session on Monday that included simulated match-ups against imaginary hitters.  He threw his forkball, cutter, curve, and slider.  It was his third session since the start of joint training camp.

1st round draft pick Daichi Osera threw nothing but fastballs during his first bullpen session at the Ono training facilities on the 18th (twenty-one pitches).  On Monday, he tossed his second session and added his curve, slider, and cutter (fifty pitches).  He is scheduled to toss another session on the 22nd.

There are three mounds at the Ono training facilities.  2nd round draft pick Allen Kuri, 1st round draft pick Osera, and Ichioka all tossed sessions at the same time on Monday.  Kuri threw off the mound at the far end.  Osera threw his session in between Kuri and Ichioka.

Kuri threw fifty pitches, including the curve, change, and two-seamer.  He also threw the cutter.

4th round draft pick Keita Nishihara tossed batting practice to 4th round draft pick Kosuke Tanaka during workouts at the Ono training facilities on Tuesday.  Nishihara was originally planning to end the session after fifty pitches, but ended up throwing ninety-nine.  He is scheduled to toss a bullpen session on the 25th.
