Chunichi Dragons

Masahiko Morino is planning to take six gloves with him to spring camp -- three first baseman's mitts and three third baseman's gloves.  He will not be taking a second baseman's glove with him.

The Dragons will add a General Electric Healthcare Japan ultrasonograph (worth about four million yen) to their facilities at Nagoya Stadium.  It will also be available at the spring camp facilities in Okinawa.  The device will allow the team to make better decisions on what to do with players that get hurt during games or how to set schedules for players that are rehabbing from injuries.  It might also help prevent injuries if pitchers are regularly checked after their outings.

Yakult Swallows

Shohei Tateyama and Masanori Ishikawa arrived at Narita Airport from their workouts in Hawaii on Thursday.

Tateyama had been training in Hawaii since December 2 and has already tossed ten bullpen sessions.  He also managed to toss four sessions to a squatting catcher of up to fifty pitches.  He was throwing at about seventy percent.

Ishikawa worked on his shoulder by spending a lot of time on throwing the ball long distances, about eighty to ninety meters.

1st round draft pick Toshihiro Sugiura could make his debut in an exhibition game against Rakuten on February 22.  He threw fifty pitches to a standing catcher in the bullpen on Wednesday.

Yasuhiro Ogawa got the chance to work out with Yu Darvish earlier this month.  Ogawa approached Darvish at a gym, the two spoke, and they started playing catch.  During the session, Darvish also offered Ogawa tips on things like the cutter, pitching mechanics, and training methods.  Ogawa is already working on adjustments to his delivery (he is being more careful about his elbow) and the way he throws the cutter.
