According to reports out of Japan, Wladimir Balentien will be able to make spring camp on February 1. Acting Team Owner and President Tsuyoshi Kinugasa made the announcement to the media earlier today.
It is uncertain when Balentien will arrive in Japan, but he is expected to head to Okinawa with the team on the 31st. Additionally, he will have to return to the United States between May 6 and 11 for divorce hearings.
With regards to Balentien's work visa, Kinugasa told reporters he knew paperwork was finalized on the 23rd but was asked by lawyers not to disclose the information.
[UPDATE 1/26 @ 10:34pm]
Since Balentien pleaded not guilty to the domestic violence charges, the Swallows have no plans to punish him at this time. The arraignment hearing for the charges is set to take place on February 3. If charges are formally filed, the trial will most likely be held off until after the season. For now, the Swallows have been told Balentien will not have to miss any parts of the season, other than what has already been set aside for the divorce hearings (May 6-11).
