Hiroshi Katayama wants a shot at starting after spending most of the last four years pitching out of the bullpen with somewhat mixed results.  He trained with Lotte's Hideaki Wakui this off-season and picked up what may have been some helpful tips on pitching.

2013 draft class training camp ended today.

1st round draft pick Yuki Matsui tossed forty-six pitches, including breaking balls, in the bullpen on Monday.  Bullpen catcher Hidenori Tsukada caught the session.

Matsui threw thirty-five fastballs, five curves, five sliders, and one change-up.

Seibu Lions

Sixty-eight players attended today's send-off ceremony in Tokorozawa.  Fifty-five of the players wore uniforms with high socks.  The rest kept their uniforms above their cleats.  Haruki Ihara approved.  3,550 fans attended the event.

The foreign players have been asked to appear at spring camp with clean-shaven faces.

The Lions held a press conference for Cody RansomGreg Reynolds, and Michael Bowden today.  Ransom is a candidate to play third base, Bowden a candidate to close, and Reynolds a candidate for the starting rotation.  The three got tours of the facilities in the morning.
